Overview
The Behavior Intervention Specialists (BIS) is a specialized instructional leader who supports school-based teams in managing complex student profiles and intensive behavioral needs. The BIS focuses on the intersection of instruction and behavior, ensuring that every student has an environment optimized for learning. This role is essential for maintaining students in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) by providing staff with the tools to implement proactive, evidence-based interventions.
Job Responsibilities
Collaborate as part of the multi-disciplinary team in conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) to identify the environmental variables and "root causes" of challenging behaviors.
Design comprehensive Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) that emphasize self-regulation strategies and proactive environmental modifications
Assist teams in identifying appropriate specially designed instruction (SDI) to address social-emotional and behavioral deficits.
Consult with classroom teachers to modify the classroom environment (e.g, optimizing schedules, visual supports, and physical layouts to minimize behavioral triggers).
Model systematic instruction techniques (e.g., scaffolding, prompt fading, and task analysis)
3. Data-Driven Decision Making
Design user-friendly data collection systems for classroom staff to track the frequency, intensity, and duration of targeted behaviors.
Train staff to collect effective data and analyze data trends to make informed adjustments to instructional programs and behavioral supports
Provide modeling and coaching during and after high-intensity behavioral incidents, ensuring safety and the fidelity of intervention
Provide job-embedded professional development and coaching for teachers and paraprofessionals.
Facilitate collaborative meetings between school staff and families to align behavioral expectations and strategies across home and school.
Design and deliver district-wide workshops on classroom management, data collection techniques, and de-escalation strategies

The daily schedule is 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the teacher work day and work calendar.
This position will be reviewed annually.
Reports to the Director of Pupil Personnel
Five (5) years of successful special education teaching experience.
Must have a proven background in positive behavioral interventions, classroom management, trauma, and crisis intervention.
Must have the ability to work with and build capacity with multi-disciplinary staff.
